Why, lord, why?

I found it relatively amusing.

Did you really? I'm genuinely astounded. I can't remember when I saw a less funny comedy. Interestingly, people in Moogle who were too young to care about the tv series, or the radio series, or the books, also found it quite amusing. I just thought it was awful. Especially the bits with John Malkovich.

Oh, I thought it was great. Preliminary findings are that people whose first exposure was the radio or the telly, and who have preset voices in mind for the characters, have a bad reaction. Those who read the books first seem to do much better.

That could be part of it. Certainly the bits I liked best were Stephen Fry's, because he just decided to go for straight impersonation.

Look, watching the TV series or not makes no difference. The films lacks structure, lacks pacing and lacks good lines. My God, they use the "can you lend a hand" cliche. And then don't actually use the arm for anything. And Marvin runs for God's sake.
